#tape_trade_central is located on espernet IRC server so in order to
talk to you, you will need to know about IRC, or Internet Relay Chat, if
you don't already. IRC is a favorite way among many to
real-time chat with online buddies, so forget AIM and ICQ and Yahoo!
Chat - come join us on irc. : )
In order to IRC, you will need some sort of client. If you don't already
have an IRC client, you can download mirc from the mirc homepage. mirc is generally
considered the best and easiest to use. Or, feel free to try Pirch, another simple-to-use client.
There
are other ways to irc, which may be more or less a hassle, but if you dont
know of those ways, then taking a few minutes to download one of these
clients is the way to go, since both mirc and pirch are free to download
anyway.
Once you have mirc or another client installed onto your computer, find
the server selection setup, and enter "irc.esper.net" for the IRC server, and port 5555 instead of the default 6667.
A lot of informative-looking text should scroll down your screen as you
sucessfully connect to a server. Once you're on the dalnet server, you
will need to join channel #tape_trade_central. mirc will pop up a channel
selection box into which you can type whatever channel you want to join;
other clients may have similar prompts. Another way to get to the
channel, is to use these two commands from your client's main/status
window, which will work in any IRC client:
/server irc.esper.net 5555 (then press enter, and you will connect to the server)
/join #tape_trade_central (hit return key again)
After that join command has been executed, you should find yourself in
the channel with us. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask
in the channel or email us.
