What's New

June 2001: We have transitioned from hosting .VQF files on our servers to hosting and treeing .SHN files, instead. Click here for SHN information and tree signups.

Who are We?
#tape_trade_central is a chat room on the Dalnet IRC servers devoted to the trading of live concert recordings, loosely termed as "bootlegs." The channel was formed in hopes of creating a friendly forum where all information on all aspects of collecting shows from our favorite artists can be exchanged. The name of the room is somewhat decieving as most of us no longer deal solely in analog cassette tapes, but also CD-Rs, MiniDiscs, video tapes, and VQF and SHN files. For the visitors of our channel, we offer compressed music free to leech from our FTP sites, bypassing the cost and trouble of trading through the postal system.

Since a lot of our visitors are interested in obtaining files from our leech FTP, please remember to read the VQF and FTP pages on this site thoroughly. Doing so will answer most of the usual questions we get. We would like to cut down on half the channel dialogue following the lines of "How do I get the password for the FTP?" and "Has the FTP password changed? I can't connect."

Some of Our Favorites to Trade:
We trade music from all genres of music. Some popularly traded artists include:
Tori Amos, Barenaked Ladies, Counting Crows, Ben Folds Five, Moxy Fruvous, Bob Dylan, Filter, Metallica, Nirvana, REM, Bruce Springsteen, They Might Be Giants, Pearl Jam, Ani Difranco, Ben Harper, Indigo Girls, Rufus Wainwright, Oasis, U2, Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, Van Morrison, Phish, Dave Matthews Band, Bruce Hornsby, John Prine and more.

Ops:
This for those who ask about becoming an op. Ops are responsible and regular members of the channel who are knowledgeable about concert recording and trading. Moreover, ops should be those who put effort into building and maintaining the channel. This, at the very minimum, includes willingness to talk to and answer questions from others who stop by. Even if you dont care to be an op, we hope that striving to maintain the channel and help others is something everyone takes part in. If you'd like to know how else to help out, just ask.
